Mayor Highlights Regional Opportunities for Blackall and Tambo
Blackall-Tambo Regional Council welcomes the Premier’s announcement this week supporting tourism across Western Queensland, alongside the launch of the 2026 Outback Tourism Campaign and Travellers Guide, driven by the Outback Queensland Tourism Association. The increased promotion presents a valuable opportunity for communities like Blackall and Tambo to draw travellers, showcase local attractions, and extend stays during the tourist season.
Council acknowledges the tireless work of Denise Brown, CEO of Outback Queensland Tourism Association, and her team for their strong advocacy and coordination across the region. As members of the association, Blackall-Tambo Regional Council supports the collective approach to marketing and industry development for all Western Queensland communities.
While Blackall-Tambo did not qualify for the specific recovery funding allocated to councils directly affected by the 2025 flooding events, Council strongly supports the broader regional campaign and recognises that a strengthened Outback Queensland brand ultimately delivers flow-on benefits across the visitor economy.
Mayor Andrew Martin said the renewed focus on Western Queensland tourism is a real boost for the region, and one Council is ready to make the most of.
“When more people are talking about ‘Outback Queensland’, that’s good news for towns like Blackall and Tambo,” Cr Martin said. “We’re right in the heart of it all, and for good reason.”
Expanding on Council’s commitment to growing the local tourism industry, Cr Martin said:
“We’ve already got the wheels in motion — we’ve funded a dedicated Tourism Officer, developed a new Visitor Guide just for our region, are building a better, modern tourism website to showcase our attractions, and are providing direct support to grow local experiences.”
“Our region deserves to be on everyone’s must-visit list, and this campaign will help tell the rest of Australia why the outback is best holiday you’re going to have.”
