A striking new Blue Tree Project installation will soon become part of the Tambo landscape, helping spark conversations about mental health and wellbeing across the community.

As part of Queensland Mental Health Week, a tree at the Grassland Art Gallery precinct will be transformed into a "blue tree", joining hundreds of Blue Tree Project sites across Australia that encourage people to check in with one another and seek support when needed.

The painting of the tree is expected to take place in early October, aligning with this year's Queensland Mental Health Week theme, Build Community, Build Wellbeing.

Blackall-Tambo Regional Council is partnering with the Tambo community and Blue Tree Project Australia to deliver the initiative. Council's Parks and Gardens team has been preparing the tree by trimming and removing bark, while qualified Council staff will assist with painting the higher sections of the tree. The project, including site preparation, painting and community activities, is being delivered at Council's cost.

The completed tree will be officially unveiled at the Grassland Art Gallery on Friday 2 October at 9.30am. Community members are invited to attend the unveiling and enjoy a free community barbecue coordinated by Council.

A number of mental health support organisations and information stalls will also be present, providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about local services and resources available in the region.

Everyone is welcome to attend the unveiling and help celebrate a project that aims to build awareness, encourage connection and remind people that support is always available.
