Each year, Blackall-Tambo’s local Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) committee dedicates considerable time and thought to selecting a strategic arts project to support across Blackall and Tambo. Inspiration struck quickly, and after some research and with the support of the Council, the 2024 project will launch an exciting new initiative: the creation of a sculpture exhibition for Tambo.
Tambo, a charming town steeped in history and known for its passionate gardeners and beautifully maintained gardens, provides the perfect backdrop for this outdoor art experience. Sculptures in the Grass will celebrate Tambo’s character through striking, site-specific three-dimensional artworks designed to engage the community and attract visitors.
Local artist and sculptor Phillipa Fearon is the creative lead behind the initiative. Reflecting on its beginnings, Pip shared, “One thing I know is to never underestimate the power of a good brainstorming session. It’s how the Tambo Teddies began—and so many other great stories too.”
The organisers believe Sculptures in the Grass holds great promise for Tambo, both culturally and economically, and invite anyone who shares that vision to get involved.
