New toilet facilities improve outdoor recreation spaces

Blackall-Tambo Regional Council is investing in outdoor recreation spaces across both townships this month, with new toilet facilities being delivered at 4 Mile in Blackall and Coolibah Walk in Tambo.
 
The projects form part of Council’s recreational upgrades in its Operational Plan for the 2026/27 financial year under and are fully funded through Council’s annual budget.
 
At the popular 4 Mile fishing location on the Barcoo River, the new toilet facility is now complete and ready for use, providing improved amenities at the popular recreation spot.
 
Construction of the Coolibah Walk facility in Tambo is expected to commence next week, with completion anticipated by the end of September.
 
Both facilities feature a single-room, universal access toilet with a covered entry and outdoor materials area. The modular buildings are secured to concrete slabs and include solar-powered LED lighting for night-time use. As both facilities are located near waterways, extra planning measures are in place to avoid damage in case of flooding.
 
Council have also installed 'No Camping' signage at each location to avoid incorrect use of the shared community spaces.
 
The upgrades will provide practical improvements for residents and visitors using these outdoor recreation spaces, supporting the continued use and enjoyment of two popular local destinations.
 
LATEST UPDATES
  • The new 4 Mile facility is now open and will be available for visitors attending the Father’s Day Family Fun Day, hosted by the Barcoo Fishing Club.
  • Construction of the new Coolibah Walk facility is expected to commence from 7 September 2026, with an update to be provided once the project is complete.
