Shopfront Renewal Program delivers fresh look for local businesses

Local businesses across Blackall and Tambo are putting the finishing touches on projects supported through Blackall-Tambo Regional Council’s Shopfront Renewal Program.

Delivered during the 2025–26 financial year, the program supported projects aimed at improving the presentation, accessibility and functionality of local business and commercial premises, with the aim to boost the local economy and ensure businesses continue to thrive in the region. 

A total of 26 applications were received, with 20 projects approved for funding. Council allocated nearly $115,000 through the program, with participating businesses contributing a further $200,000 towards their projects, generating a combined local investment of $315,000 -as well as numerous hours of labour and support from shopfront owners. 

Projects included façade painting and repairs, upgraded signage, accessibility improvements, landscaping, lighting, pathway works, outdoor trading areas and upgrades to heritage and tourism-related buildings.

The improvements have contributed to more welcoming and attractive business areas, while providing practical benefits for businesses, residents and visitors.

As part of the program, participating businesses were also encouraged to improve their digital presence through updated Google Business profiles, websites and social media information, helping customers find accurate and up-to-date information online.

The Shopfront Renewal Program forms part of Council’s commitment to the Small Business Friendly Charter and its ongoing support for local businesses and investment across Blackall and Tambo.
