Western Queensland Advocacy goes to Brisbane

It’s a long way from Blackall to Brisbane, but some conversations are worth the trip. 

 

During the last week of August, Mayor Andrew Martin, Deputy Mayor David Hardie and Director of Organisational Performance Alison Lamb were in Brisbane for the 2026 Western Queensland Alliance of Councils (WQAC) Assembly.

 

Along with the chance to make connections with surrounding regions, the program covered some important issues for regional Queensland, including the Federal Government’s proposed changes to disaster recovery funding and calls for a national review of the regional aviation model.

 

Before the WQAC program got underway, the Remote Area Planning and Development Board RAPAD Board also met face-to-face to discuss current regional priorities and issues, including the recent early childhood education and care forum held here in Blackall.

 

These conversations are important in making sure our region has a strong voice, our local issues are understood, and our communities have a seat at the table when decisions affecting regional Queensland are being made.
