Blackall-Tambo Regional Council is proud to congratulate Lifestyle & Community Officer and much-loved local librarian Courtney Richardson on successfully graduating from the prestigious State Library of Queensland Library Leaders Program.

Selected for the highly regarded statewide program in mid-2025, Courtney joined a cohort of emerging library professionals from across Queensland chosen for their passion, innovation, and commitment to strengthening communities through public libraries.

Delivered by the State Library of Queensland in partnership with the Queensland Public Libraries Association, the Library Leaders Program is designed to develop the next generation of library leaders through professional development, mentoring, networking, and hands-on project delivery. The program supports participants to build leadership capability, strengthen community engagement skills, and deliver innovative library services that make a real impact in regional and remote communities across Queensland.

Throughout the program, Courtney was mentored by experienced senior librarians from across the state and encouraged to lead meaningful community initiatives tailored to local needs.

As part of her leadership journey, Courtney initiated and expanded several successful local initiatives including:

• Read Together, Grow Together

• Library on Wheels - Lady Gowie Childcare visits

• Sprouts & Seniors Playgroup (McLean Place Nursing Home)

These ideas have strengthened early literacy engagement, encouraged lifelong learning, and created valuable opportunities for intergenerational connection across the Blackall community.

Courtney has also been a valued member of the Blackall-Tambo Regional Council team for more than 15 years, beginning her career with Council as a Trainee Customer Service Officer straight out of school. Through dedication, hard work, and a passion for community service, Courtney has grown into a highly respected member of the organisation and is a wonderful example of the professional development opportunities that exist within Council.

Mayor Andrew Martin said Courtney’s achievement reflects both her dedication to the community and the important role libraries play in rural communities.

“Courtney’s enthusiasm, creativity, and genuine care for our community are evident in everything she does,” Mayor Andrew Martin said.

“She has created programs that not only encourage a love of reading and learning in our youngest residents, but also bring generations together through connection, storytelling, and shared experiences.”

“Courtney’s journey from trainee to recognised library leader is a fantastic example of professional growth within our organisation, and we are incredibly proud to see her achievements recognised at a state level.”

To celebrate the completion of the program, the State Library of Queensland flew Courtney to Sydney for the final Library Leaders training sessions, networking opportunities, and graduation celebrations.

During the visit, Courtney also had the opportunity to tour the iconic State Library of New South Wales, gaining insights into innovative library services and connecting with library professionals from across Australia.

Blackall-Tambo Regional Council congratulates Courtney on this outstanding achievement and thanks her for the passion and dedication she brings to our libraries and wider community every day.

“We are incredibly proud of Courtney and excited to see the positive impact her leadership will continue to have across our region.”
