Waste Management
Blackall-Tambo Regional Council provides waste disposal facilities and kerbside collection services for residents in Blackall and Tambo.

Waste Facilities (Town Dumps)
Council operates waste facilities in both towns.
Blackall Waste Facility
Location: Evora Road, Blackall
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Access: Free for local residents
Tambo Waste Facility
Location: Dump Road, Tambo
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Access: Free dumping for local residents
Accepted waste includes:
- General household waste
- Green waste
- Scrap metal
- General disposal items
Please follow all signage and place waste in the correct areas.
Kerbside Waste Collection
Council provides kerbside waste collection services in both towns.
- Tambo - Wednesday
- Blackall - Tuesday and Thursday
Household Bins & Skip Bins
- General waste bins are not supplied by Council
- Bins are available for purchase from local suppliers (e.g. hardware stores or Elders)
- There is currently no skip bin service available in Blackall or Tambo
Recycling
There are currently no Council-managed recycling services available.
Electronic Waste
Throughout the year, eCycle offers scheduled e-waste recycling collection events via local business Blackall Betta, with Fridges, Air Cons, TVs and Small Appliances able to be booked in for recycling. Please contect eCycle directly for their next pick up event and to schedule a drop off.
Container Recycling (cans/bottles)
Local business, Blackall Hardware, have joined the Containers for Change program and now offer recycling-for-cash services during business hours.
Clothing & Homewares
Items in good condition can be donated to the Blackall Thrift Shop, located in Shamrock Street. See business for opening hours and options for donations.
Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals
ChemClear, a national product stewardship program managed by Agsafe, routinely offers collection and disposal services for unwanted agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemicals. Residents can register via the Agsafe website to arrange a collection date.
Rural Waste Disposal
Rural residents can access the town waste facilities during open hours for general disposal of metal (fencing/yards/equipment), polyethylene (tanks, poly pipe, troughs, fittings), and concrete waste (troughs/posts).

Hazardous Waste - Asbestos
Asbestos is a hazardous material and must not be placed in general waste.
Home renovators and tradespeople have a legal responsibility to protect their own health and the health of others by preventing the release of asbestos fibres.
Before disturbing any building materials, you should:
- Check whether the material is likely to contain asbestos
- If unsure, assume it does contain asbestos and take appropriate precautions
Identifying Asbestos
As a general guide:
- Before mid-1980s: Highly likely to contain asbestos
- Mid-1980s to 1990: Likely to contain asbestos
- After 1990: Unlikely to contain asbestos
If you need confirmation, it is recommended to have a sample tested by a qualified laboratory.
Laboratories can be found through the National Association of Testing Authorities.
A laboratory or asbestos consultant can also advise on how to safely collect and submit samples. Fees will apply.
Legal Requirements
Asbestos must be handled, transported and disposed of in accordance with Queensland legislation.
Significant penalties may apply for unsafe handling or illegal disposal.
The management and removal of asbestos in workplaces (including residential properties where contractors are engaged) is regulated by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

Disposal
Fees apply for the disposal of asbestos.
Residents must contact Council prior to disposal to ensure correct handling and disposal procedures are followed.
Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping is not permitted on and public or private lands.
To report illegal dumping, contact Council and provide:
- Location of the waste
- Type of materials
- Photos (if possible)
- Any other relevant details
The more information provided, the quicker Council can respond.
