Animal Management
Blackall-Tambo Regional Council is committed to supporting responsible pet ownership and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the community, animals, and the local environment.
Pet owners play an important role in helping maintain a safe and respectful community by ensuring their animals are properly cared for, controlled, and managed in accordance with Council’s Local Laws.
Key Responsibilities for Pet Owners
Pet owners are reminded to:
- Ensure dogs are registered and microchipped as required by legislation
- Keep animals securely contained within their property
- Prevent pets from wandering or causing a nuisance
- Keep dogs under effective control when in public spaces
- Clean up after pets and minimise impacts on neighbours
Animal Registration and Identification
All dogs over 12 weeks of age must be registered with Council and microchipped. Registration helps Council reunite lost pets with their owners and supports the delivery of animal management services across the region.
Discounted registration fees apply for desexed dogs.
Community Safety
All pet owners must ensure their animals do not pose a risk to people or other animals. Dogs that display aggressive behaviour or are involved in attacks may be subject to enforcement action under relevant legislation.
Wandering Animals
Animals found wandering may be collected and held by Council. It is the responsibility of pet owners to ensure adequate fencing or control measures are in place to prevent animals from roaming.
If your pet goes missing, contact Council as soon as possible to arrange collection. Fees may apply for the release of animals.
Reporting Animal Issues
Residents can report wandering animals or animal-related concerns through Council’s website or via the Snap Send Solve app
