Getting Around the Blackall–Tambo Region

Blackall–Tambo Regional Council provides a range of community transport options to support residents travelling both locally and across the region.

These services are designed to improve access to essential services, employment, education and social connection.

Regional Community Bus (Free Service)

Council is trialling a Community Bus service aimed at improving regional transport connections between Tambo, Blackall, Jericho, Barcaldine and Longreach.

The service is primarily designed to connect residents with:

  • Greyhound coach services (priority use)
  • Train services
  • Flight connections (where available)
  • Essential medical appointments

All travel is subject to availability and booking conditions. Connections to the Greyhound coach service at Jericho take priority over all other requests. Other bookings may be accommodated where capacity allows.

Local Taxi Service

A Council-supported local taxi service is available in Blackall for short-distance travel within town.

Operating Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 3:00pm
  • Saturday: 9:00am – 1:00pm

Bookings may also be available outside these hours by arrangement.

This service is suitable for:

  • Local appointments
  • Shopping trips
  • General transport around town

Mini Bus Hire (Private Use)

Council have two bus options (Tambo and Blackall) available for hire for approved private and community use, including:

  • Community events
  • Sporting trips
  • School excursions
  • Functions and group travel

Driver Requirements

Hirers must provide a driver who:

  • Holds a minimum Light Rigid (LR) Licence
  • Meets Driver Authorisation requirements (where applicable)
  • Completes required logbooks

Hire Conditions

  • The bus must be returned clean (interior and exterior)
  • The bus must be fully fuelled on return
  • Any damage must be reported to Council

Hire is subject to availability and applicable fees.
