On Saturday 11 April, Council's Sport and Recreation Officer, Natalie Dendle, hosted the Run for Rural Aid event, bringing together runners, walkers, volunteers and community members in support of Rural Aid.

Excellent results were achieved on the day, with Dan Black taking out first place in the 10km event. In the 5km event, Gabrielle Keating placed first, demonstrating exceptional commitment after originally being scheduled to run the 10km. Despite being on call as a doctor, she still completed the 5km run before responding to a call-out.

The event offered both 5km and 10km options, with a $5 entry fee and all funds raised donated directly to Rural Aid to support farmers and rural communities in need. Participants followed a marked course along Rose Street, finishing at the Blackall Aquatic Centre.

Council extends its sincere thanks to the dedicated volunteers who supported the event, arriving from 5:30am to assist with setup for a 6:00am start. Volunteers supported water stations, guided participants along the course, and assisted with setup and pack-down, playing a vital role in the success of the day.

Thanks must go to all participants and supporters for their contribution to a successful event, and acknowledges the strong community spirit shown in supporting rural and farming communities through this initiative.
