Blackall-Tambo Regional Council is committed to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our communities through environmental health, biosecurity and pest management services.
Working with residents, businesses, landholders and government agencies, Council helps minimise public health risks, manage invasive species and support a healthy environment across the region.
Biosecurity & Pest Management
Council plays an important role in managing invasive plants and pest animals that impact agriculture, the environment and our communities.
Services include:
- Invasive plant identification and management
- Pest animal control programs
- Coordinated baiting programs where appropriate
- Biosecurity advice for landholders
- Community education and awareness
- Compliance with Queensland biosecurity legislation
Council coordinates programs targeting pest animals such as wild dogs and feral pigs to help reduce impacts on livestock, agriculture and the natural environment.

Mosquitoes & Public Health Pests
Mosquitoes and other public health pests can affect the health and wellbeing of residents, particularly following rainfall or periods of standing water.
Where necessary, Council undertakes mosquito monitoring and treatment on Council-managed land to help reduce mosquito populations and minimise public health risks.
When mosquito spraying or other pest management activities are scheduled, Council will publish notices through its website and official communication channels to keep the community informed.
Residents can also help reduce mosquito numbers around their homes by:
- Emptying containers that hold water
- Keeping gutters clean
- Maintaining swimming pools and water features
- Removing unwanted tyres and other water-holding items
- Reporting significant mosquito breeding on Council-managed land

Protecting Our Environment
Protecting the Blackall-Tambo Region is a shared responsibility between Council, landholders, residents, industry and the Queensland Government.
Blackall-Tambo Regional Council works to:
- Manage invasive plants and pest animals on Council-managed land
- Deliver local biosecurity and pest management programs
- Support landholders with information and advice
- Respond to environmental and public health concerns within Council's responsibilities
- Protect public spaces, parks and community facilities
- Raise community awareness through education and seasonal programs
Council also works closely with the Queensland Government, including Biosecurity Queensland, to help prevent, prepare for and respond to threats affecting agriculture, the environment and the community.
If you suspect a notifiable pest, disease or other biosecurity threat, it should be reported to Biosecurity Queensland as soon as possible.
